Pew Research discovered that 57% of online video viewers share links to the video they find with others, and 75% say they receive links to watch video that others have sent to them.

eMarketer states that "video ad spending will run counter to overall economic developments, rising by 45 percent in 2009 to reach $850 million."

Now over 90% of the US connections are broadband according to a study done by the Pew Foundation.

77% of Americans watched an online video clip in December 2008. They viewed 14.3 Billion Videos during the month. More than 300 minutes of video were watched, on average, per viewer.

Online Video May Be the Silver Lining for 2009 Marketing Budgets.
Advertisers are planning to move their marketing dollars into the online video space next year. At least that's what eMarketer and a survey from online video platform provider PermissionTV predict. They surveyed about 400 senior level marketing and media executives. They identified online video as the top priority for digital marketing budgets.

Video ad spending will rise 45% in 2009 to reach $850 million,
  • 67% are planning to make online video the primary focus of their 2009 digital marketing campaigns.
  • 71% stated it would help build brand awareness.
  • According to Internet Retailer, A full 41.7% of surveyed retailers indicated they were already using video, and 43.3% of respondents planned on deploying video in 2009.

Watching from work!
Some of the virtues of online videos are that they can be access from anywhere around the world at anytime, Even from work. Nielsen Ratings discovered that Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- 65 percent of online video viewers streamed at least one piece of content.

Television vs. Internet
Century 21 Real Estate announced in January of 2009 that, "it is transitioning its television advertising to additional online advertising"

According to a recent study by the Association of National Advertisers and Forrester Research, most marketers say television advertising has become less effective in the past two years.

The study concludes that:
  • Over 50% of the marketers surveyed plan on spending less on TV advertising in the future.
  • Most advertisers are interested in trying new ad formats, such as ads in online TV shows and video on demand.
  • 87% of respondents say they plan on spending more on web advertising this year.

Traditional vs. Internet advertising in 2009
Internet advertising might become an island of stability in the midst of the world financial crisis. According to Barclay’s analysts, U.S. advertising revenue is forecasted to fall in 2009, with declines in most media but hitting newspapers and magazines the hardest.
Newspaper ad revenue is estimated to fall by 12% in 2009, while magazine ad revenue is expected to be down by 12.5%. TV and radio will also be hurt.
